Volunteer

Name –  Jill

Where are you from? Colorado Springs. My husband and I moved from Wyoming to Louisiana, Ohio and Texas, then back to beautiful Colorado 20 years ago.  We now live in Franktown.

What makes you want to volunteer at the Ranch? I enjoy watching and being around horses even though I’m not experienced with them.  And I love connecting with the people who come to the Ranch.  Mainly though, I’m excited about what God is doing here and I’m excited to be part of it.

What’s your coolest experience?  After college about 35 years ago, I traveled around Europe for several weeks by myself. With no cell phone in those days, and no itinerary, it was an amazing adventure and really built my confidence and independence.

What would you like to do but haven’t yet? Sell the edible flowers I grow to restaurant chefs to use in their fancy dishes.

Favorite movie? From when I was a kid, an old Gene Kelly movie about a village in Scotland that comes to life only every 100 years; Brigadoon.

What’s the most amazing thing to you about God? His creation of humans, creatures and nature, how He never stops pursuing us, and how much He loves us.

What gets you out of bed in the morning? Only several times of sleeping through my alarm, and a cup of coffee! Aside from that, I always enjoy seeing the trees and hearing the birds in the morning where I live.

Favorite horse experience?  Watching one of the Ranch’s volunteers, Gerry, directing an unfamiliar horse around a round pen using just small hand gestures.

Do you prefer salty or sweet, and why?  I always go for salty, possibly because I don’t gravitate to things that are bland.  I could eat chips three meals a day!

What do you do when you see a mud puddle?  I go around it, but if just water, I would love a good splash in it.

If you could hear God speak 25 words to you, what would they be?  I love you.  You trust me and your heart is committed to me. You’ve used my gifts to you well, and you bring me glory.  Well done.
