Knowing About vs Knowing
We can read a celebrity’s autobiography, we can hear all the chit-chat about someone, we can follow somebody on Facebook or Instagram; we can know all these things about a person, without ever laying eyes on them in real life, but do we actually know them?
We can also learn all about horses from books, movies, videos, friends, and trainers, but can that take the place of actually spending time with a horse? Absolutely not!
The same is true with God. We can know all sorts of things about Him. We can see what He does in other people’s lives, we can listen to everyone’s opinion about Him, we can hear other people’s experience of Him, but until we actually spend time with Him ourselves – reading His Word, talking to Him and listening to the Holy Spirit- we won’t truly know God.
We live in a world where we can “friend” somebody we’ve never met, where a hug emoji takes the place of an actual hug, where looking at screens replaces getting out there and experiencing life with all 5 of our God-given senses!
Can hearing about MY experience with horses ever take the place of YOU coming out here and having your own firsthand experience?
I can tell you all about the thrill of a ride, the comfort of connection, the awe of the horse’s power, beauty and strength, but until you have your own experience, you’ll never know that thrill, comfort or awe.
Same with God. Someone can tell us all about God’s love, acceptance, peace, and hope, but until we truly make the effort to show up to know Him, we will never know or experience His life-changing love, acceptance, peace and hope ourselves.
Do we want to live our lives settling for just knowing about things? Or do we really want to know, feel, experience… LIVE! God gave us 5 senses for a reason! Let’s use them for His glory and our delight!
